Dr. William S. Mayo is a native Mississippian who grew up in Drew, Mississippi. After graduating from Ole Miss, Dr. Mayo attended the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic medicine and graduated in 1981. For the next four years, Dr. Mayo was at the University of Mississippi Medical School, where he completed his ophthalmology residency, serving as Senior and Chief Resident from 1984 to 1985. From 1985 to 1988, Dr. Mayo served in the U.S. Navy as the Ophthalmology Department Head in Newport, Rhode Island, and Pensacola, Florida. Upon completion of his service, Dr. Mayo moved to Greenville, Mississippi, where he practiced in Gamble Brothers and Archer Clinic until 1990. Since 1990, he has been practicing in Oxford Mississippi.
In addition to his practice, Dr. Mayo has been involved locally and nationally in service. He is past president of the Mississippi EENT Society and the Mississippi Osteopathic Medical Association. He currently serves on the Oxford Economic Development Foundation, the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure, and the Board of Trustees of the American Osteopathic Association. Dr. Mayo is an elder at First Presbyterian Church, Oxford, Mississippi.
